I'm officially a student again
« on: May 16, 2013, 01:43:25 PM »
I decided to go back to school, so I'm going for the Master Nutritional Therapy program at ntischool.com .    Looking forward to learning about the holistic side of nutrition.   ( I'm 48, so this ought to be interesting)  lol

Hey, that is AWESOME!  It's never too late.  I started college at 36 with only a GED, worked for 8 years and finally got my Bachelor's Degree when I was 44 years old.

And that sounds like a WAY more interesting major than accounting!  I think you'll do great because you have a real passion for it.   :)

I had 2 years of college right out of high school. Then I went back about 30 years later. Got my B.S. in psychology at the age of 54. One of the best things I ever did!

I'm waiting for 2 text books to arrive for my first course.  ( I forgot how expensive text books are ... they were like $150 each ).

Wow! Did they have an e book for less. I'm waiting for my copy of WBCB. Should be here on Friday. Can't wait! Diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome. Probably won't be too many recipes I can use for awhile.

No ebook on the text books, but I ordered used books, so I saved about $40 between both books.

You'll find the WBCB has lots of great recipes for metabolic syndrome, since it's all low carb stuff.

Rita,
How's life in the "school" lane? Can you update and keep us in the loop?

Well... I'm taking Anatomy and Physiology course.   So far I've learned a lot about cells and tissues, the skin and body membranes, and the skeletal system.  It is hard, as there is vocabulary that is completely new to me.  Yet, the entire subject is absolutely fascinating.   If you're in for some interesting reading, grab a college level anatomy and physiology book.

Tonight's reading on Osteoblasts and Osteoclasts ( cells that build bone and cells that break down bone) is absolutely fascinating.    Your body stores calcium in the bone, and when you don't have enough calcium in your blood supply from diet, your body produces a hormone that instruct the Osteoclasts ( cells that break down bone ), to go from a dormant state, to actually break down the bone so it can get to the calcium ions in the bone.   In order to absorb calcium from the diet, your body needs magnesium.  Your body also needs Vitamin D to absorb calcium.   And in order for Vitamin D to go from the dietary or sun form to become useful in the body, it needs magnesium.

Then, to rebuild bone cells ( which is a continuous process ), your body absolutely needs Vitamin C to produce collagen.
