Red Wine Stains
« on: October 13, 2013, 04:58:32 PM »
You red wine drinkers probably already know this. It really does work. I found out just now that it works much easier when the spill is fresh (even on light colored carpet)...but it will remove a stain from overnight too, just takes much more work. I usually put quite a lot more 3% H2O2 and a much smaller amount of Dawn.

Red Wine Stain Removal
Stir up nearly equal parts of plain old hydrogen peroxide and Dawn dishwashing soap (or use a soap thatís suitable for the fabric; i.e., carpet cleaner for carpets, Woolite for wools, dish soap for washables, etc.). Then apply it to the red wine stain.
  • A little suitable soap
  • A little hydrogen peroxide
  • You must use BOTH ingredients
  • Spray, pour, or dab the mixture on the stain
One warning: Since peroxide is a bleaching agent, the remedy could potentially bleach some colored fabrics. Always test a small patch before trying this recipe

Our carpet is lighter in Indiana than on Long Island....before you use anything....put cornstarch on the stain....then use the hydrogen peroxide/dawn combo....works like magic! We have tile down here....so are able to use H2O!
