I started and then I slipped on a wet tile on my porch the 7th of June.  My left leg folded under me and I sat on the bottom on my foot causing a huge skin tear from ankle to ankle on the front of my leg.  Four weeks of foot above heart.  Not easy and no fun at all.  Couldn't walk on it anyway because it turns out a piece of bone broke off and reassigned itself somewhere else and it hurt like heck.  I didn't know about the fracture.  The ER didn't x-ray and I figured the pain was from the trauma to my completely purple foot.  LOL.   Long story short, it took three months of wound care help and tons of antibiotics which caused problems of their own and foot above heart as much as possible.  Somehow wheat got pushed aside and I am, once again, starting over.

I forgot that!!!!!  Thanks for the reminder.  Heading off to make some right now.  I have managed to continue with coconut oil and the proper butter.  Thanks!!!!!  And I am constantly telling people, mostly family, to forget about worrying about fats.  The best proof of that for me is that we (Americans in general) have been going low-fat or fat-free for years and as a group we are fatter than ever.

I'm committed because I know this works and the food is delicious!

I have absolutely no idea why I quit in the first place.  It was working so well.  Anyway, I'm back and started by making broccoli soup, tomato soup, shrimp bisque and butternut squash soup yesterday -- recipes from the book.  They are so delicious and I love soup.  Can you tell?  181.2 today.  I'll keep the inches to myself.  So far today I have had sausage, scrambled eggs cooked in coconut oil, coffee and some broccoli soup.  More soup later.  Be back tomorrow.

I do that a lot.  I cook my protein in whatever oil I have chosen with whatever herbs, etc. I have chosen, steam my veggies while the protein is cooking, and then finish off the veggies in the protein/oil/garlic/herb/whatever pan.  Really makes for some great veggies.  Spinach really works well and doesn't need to be steamed first.

Lovin' these!  I keep them in the fridge.  The only problem is that my little Shih Tzu thinks I should share and she can't have chocolate which she totally doesn't understand so I keep green beans on the counter.  She loves them, they are good for her, and I think she is feeling sorry for me thinking that's all I ever eat since that's all she gets.  LOL

Good for you on your weight loss for the first week.  Regarding rashes, I had a rash on my forearms for a long time which disappeared after two or three weeks on WF.  You are going to love this WF life and especially this forum.  Keep it up!  And welcome aboard!

Ice cube trays is a great idea.  Almost bite-sized!  Have to hit the grocery store for ingredients but this sounds super great.  I get hungry for a taste of something sweet now and then.  When this happens I've been doing Greek yogurt with Truvia and three or four berries, but chocolate sounds yummy.

What kind of dog did you have?  Bill left me with three kids and a dog who blessed us with 11 pups while he was  gone.  We kept Shafer along with his Mom, Lisa, when we transferred to Colorado Springs.  Here's a picture of the kids  and the two dogs just before Bill retired and we left the Springs.

In the WB book, not the recipe book, there is a recipe for chocolate peanut butter fudge.  It calls for 1/3 less fat cream cheese.  Why?  If fat is ok, why the reduced fat cream cheese?

Read an article in our local paper and prediabetes jumped out at me, plus losing the fat around my innards.  I had done Weight Watchers followed by Atkins and lost weight but not many inches.  This WB thing is fantastic.  I wasn't afraid eating fat because of Atkins and dropping all grains was easy because of the glycemic index.  I had no idea a piece of wheat bread was as high or higher than sugar.  Sheesh.  I'd have to say losing the inches is the best part plus I just feel good!

I read about it in an article in our paper by a local doctor on September 11th of this year.  I'm not sure if he wrote it or just passed it on, but I'm so tickled that he did whatever he did! Started that same day.

Don't forget to check the inches!!! When I first started WB I cut a blue ribbon to fit my waist and a purple ribbon to fit around the belly button area and every Wednesday I check them and cut off the extra.  Those pieces go into a jar which is a visual reminder of how I am reducing belly fat.  That's what I wanted to do in the first place, plus get rid of this "prediabetes" thing my doctor was scaring me with.  In a little less  than 5 weeks I've lost 4" from my belly and an inch from my waist but only 3 pounds.
Keep up the good work!  It will pay off in so many ways.

I ate out the other day -- broiled salmon and I asked for extra olive oil.  No problem.  Did away with the rice and had a double order of broccoli instead.  No problem there, either.  It was delicious.  Added the extra olive oil to both the salmon and broccoli and sprinkled the broccoli with my powdered garlic which I had in my purse.  :)  The only "bad" thing I did was have a Bud Light, but that's really okay, too.  Occasionally.  Lovin' this!

Barbara  from NJ.  Thanks for your tips.   I have cooked the bacon and frozen it before but not baked.  What temp to you use and what tips to you have?  I lost my sweetie four years ago so I am pretty much free to do whatever I want.  It makes it much easier.

I eat a lot of weird leftovers for breakfast but tomorrow I am trying the chia pudding.  It is sitting in the fridge now, doing whatever it does.  I plan to add a chopped apple and some raw nuts tomorrow morning.  I made the turkey sausage from the WBCB which is delicious and I had it with a couple of fried broken eggs yesterday along with sautéed chopped tomatoes and shallots, cooked in CO.  Ice cream scoops of it are sitting in the freezer waiting for their turn to be cooked.  Today I had uncured bacon (shared with my Shih Tzu and Yorkie, of course) and two broken fried eggs and the tomato/shallot deal.  I love this!!!!

He called me today to see how I was doing.  He's local and I see him frequently, but he calls a lot, too.  I was bubbling over and over about my success with this WB WOE and now he wants to try it.  He has the "beer belly" (doesn't drink beer, but that's what he's been calling it LOL).  We shall see.  Sure can't hurt to try.

Not sure of the spelling and no spellcheck jumped up, but I had a rash on both lower arms before I started this WF way of eating and it is almost gone, along with 2 1/2 pounds and over 2" off my waist in ten days.  I can't believe any of this.  Wow.

How do you get this message across.  How do you tell my three in particular that they are killing themselves with wheat and other grains.  I'm 75 and if I decide to watch the Gators play at their house and forgo the chips with the dip because the chips are wheat and I know they should, how far do I go?  None of them have "wheat bellies".  I do, but they don't.  Do I stand up and show them?  Ewwwww.   Do they just sluff it off as "old age"?  It's really hard.  How have you handled it, if at all?

I usually eat scrambled eggs with a side of shallots/tomatoes sauted(sp) in coconut oil then removed from the pan for the scrambled eggs.  Today I had scrambled eggs and cheese with a broiled tomato.  A lot of the time I eat leftovers -- any leftovers.  Breakfast isn't just eggs for me.  I'll have to admit that being WF has made breakfast a lot harder but since I used to eat cold lasagna or cold chili or cold pizza for breakfast (much to my late husband's horror), I can pretty much handle anything for breakfast and enjoy it.

Bought the Blue Ice tonight and am enjoying it.  I drink it chilled, unmixed, so when it tastes good, I'm happy.  My liquor store only had the Blue Ice and Titos and Blue Ice was prettier.  See how we are?  Still losing pounds and inches (inches more than pounds but I think I have more of those to lose LOL) on WF, so an occasional vodka doesn't seem to hurt.

I ate the eggplant/cheese/tomato recipe from the WB book.  Not the cookbook, the other book.  It is DELICIOUS and I plan to have it for breakfast and share it with my daughter when she visits me tomorrow for lunch.  I'm a widow so my food choices and available foods are easy for me.  She's not.  She's married, but I really know this WB diet will help her a lot.  Not easy.  I know that.  I have been there, married, when I really wanted to try something new for weight loss and there was the HUSBAND!!!!  Love those guys!  So I know what some of you are going through with a "reluctant" spouse (husband or other).  LOL

I did a search on the forum and only found one concerning vodka (Blue Ice, made from potatoes, I think).  I like an occasional drink and gravitate toward vodka and was wondering if anyone has done any research on vodka.  It is my understanding that vodka is carb-free so if you drink one not made using wheat, what the heck............?

Thanks for the robust welcome, guys.  Who else but people like us could celebrate an INCH!  I love the program and I love what I have been reading about it.  My doctor kept telling me I was prediabetic which was scary as  heck.  I'm on meds for high blood pressure and high cholesterol.  Hoping to get off of those and not worry about diabetes.  And I love the program!

Hey.  I've been doing low carb for a long time with occasional lapses into pasta, bread, etc.  I, too, figured whole grain was good so that's what I did.  I have lost a pound since I started, BUT I have lost an inch off my waist which makes me happy.  I've lost weight before but never inches so I think this is working.  Not a hard WOE to follow at all.  Today I made the eggplant/cheese/tomato recipe from the book and it is absolutely delicious and I think will be my breakfast tomorrow.  Yes, I'm one of those.  I'm looking forward to spending time on this forum and sticking with this wheatbelly thing.
