General Discussion / Thyrocsin

My Naturopath prescribed Thyrocsin for me. I had my T4 checked and it is at 2.4..which to my medical doctor is "within normal range". I refuse to accept that so went to my Naturopath. I definitely have symptoms of hypothyroidism and most noticeably weight gain and not losing. Anyone take this supplement? If so, your thoughts?

To update re my unsuccessful 1 year journey wheat free:As I mentioned previous, my main reason for becoming wheat free was for weight loss, tried numerous suggestions from others and finally desperate with my weight higher than it ever was went back to my former healthy eating coach and yes, I was trying the extra fat, etc,etc. Within one week, my weight is down 4.5 lbs!! My coach just tweaked my menu, healthy fats but not overdoing it as I was eating nuts/cheese more than I should .
So not sure that increasing fat works for everyone. My SFL( Simply for life Plan) may be easier to maintain now after I lose the weight because I do plan to remain wheat free. Will keep you updated on progress. Thanks to all for your support!

Personal Diaries / Still very little results

Well, it has been a year since I started this wheatfree lifestyle and my weight belly is still there. I am at least 35 lbs overweight  and yes, it was my main reason for picking up the book stating " lose the wheat, Lise the weight". I guess I was lucky that I had very few health issues so don't see a major improvement in the few ailments that I have i.e. Sore knees, back. I have tried most of the things that are suggested when weight loss doesn't occur. Frankly, I am tired of the 'try this, try that'!! I plan to go back to my "Simply for Life" coach ( successful plan in the past but didn't stick with it) but at least I lost weight.

Good luck to everyone here. I think that there is no one magic bullet, basically it is what works for you and makes you feel well. I cannot support a WOE that simply does not work for me!

General Discussion / New year start!!

Gained back all 12.5 lbs and more that I initially lost with WF lifestyle! As I mentioned in another post, have been vigilant most of the time. Beautiful day here post blizzard so DH and I went snow shoeing in the fresh snow and we can do so from our front yard! I bought the new WB cookbook and discovered missing pages so returned the book today for a replacement, when the sales lady checked they had a number there with the same issue so was lucky to get one!

I just made the vanilla custard, a little too sweet so will decrease sweetener next time,also purchased a food processor and mixed plain goat milk yogurt, blueberries, xylitol and cocoanut...tastes very good. Just want to see if cutting dairy will help with the process. I will also have to give up the glass of red wine for awhile!

I am determined to stick with it!!!

Well, I have to say that I have been very sceptical about this WF lifestyle.
I think it comes from being a nurse and all the things I believed in the past!
So this leads me to...I have been ( mostly WF) since Feb 2013
with no miraculous results! Anyway having had small amounts of wheat in the past months, I thought...no, I don't believe the side effects are as dramatic as some say...so I over indulged in treats
containing wheat..woke up with horrific heartburn!! Not well at all the next day, felt like a
hang over from my past! I'm not sure why it is taking so long for me to see results especially weight loss, but I will start afresh in the new year, buy Dr Davis's new book (today)and see if I can make better progress!! So you could say, I'm finally a believer!

A couple of questions:
I'm not seeing the benefits of the wheatfree
life style as are most people on this forum( still
experiencing sinus symptoms in the morning
 brain fog , low energy, went for
a walk yesterday and had so much discomfort in
my left leg,very small weight loss in 7 months, etc. so I am wondering if the following may be the issue?
1) Dairy - eat a lot of cheese, some cream milk & yogurt, chocolate
2) eat out at least once per week
3) work stress- may be time to retire!!
4) 1 wine /day
My Naturopath has suggested eliminating dairy,
1 cup caffeine daily and eliminating certain vegs/fruits for a
short period.
Any thoughts?

General Discussion / The negative health effects of sugar

I saw a show last night on a program called
the Fifth Estate on the negative effects
of sugar on ones health. You can find more
info at www.cbc.ca/fifth. Very interesting, now
maybe they should do one about wheat?

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have been
wheatfree for almost 7 months. I don't feel a
big difference physically...and no more weight loss,
as a matter of fact gained 2-3 lbs over the summer.
Just a few questions: how much do you think
load of stress would impact on feeling better/weight loss?
Some things I may not be doing right: flavoured coffee,
occassional "more than" recommended amount of
carbs, grain fed meats.
I will be getting my labs done this coming week
for the first time since going wf and dropping
a statin, going to a market to check out grass fed meats.
My typical day: 3- 4 eggs with cocoanut oil,
few blueberries, probiotics at breakfast,
Coffee, mid morning- coffee, sometimes cheese,
new found snack - enerjive Quinoa Skinny crackers,
Lunch - meat, salad or veggies, Greek cocoanut yogurt
Snack - sometimes- Almonds or cheese, Dinner - meat/ veggies
dessert( cheesecake/ PB pie from WB, occassional
low fat frozen yogurt. Some days less than 1 L of water.( I know
not good!!).. glass or two red wine.
I did see a Naturopath who gave me a
meal plan to eliminate dairy( and other foods on a
temp basis) 1 caffeniated beverage,etc...
May need to go there? Thanks for reading this
long winded post! Anyone else with similar
issues?

I'm wondering if anyone would have suggestions
for a WF menu for a 24 yr old young man
living away from home? That would be my son
who is experiencing numerous issues( I'm
sure) made so much worse by wheat.
He eats 3 - 4 slices of toast for breakfast,
never feels full.He is  experiencing depression,
because of the recent loss of his dad and
dog. I feel that if he could get rid of the wheat
it would be a great start. Any suggestions
would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Still struggling with gastric issues...still wheat
free. It has been 2 weeks since I started
taking Pantoloc. I have to be extra cautious
about what I eat. I did start taking apple
cider vinegar and believe it or not, more effective
than Pantoloc! Any suggestions would be most
helpful!! Anyone else experience gastritis
after several months of wheat free?

Just wondering if anyone who has been
wheat free for a period and have been exposed
to wheat have experienced distressing
symptoms? I have been wheat free since
the end of Feburary and eat out at least
once each week. This past weekend after
eating out, I experienced abdominal distress,
slight headache, brain "fog" and terrible mood
swings. Is this really possible?

I started my Wheat free journey about 6 weeks
ago, after reading Wheat Belly.I have lost 8 lbs
and notice a change in body shape.
I haven't noticed a big change
in my health. I am overall healthy but have
been experiencing a problem with swelling,
discomfort in one leg and most recently a
constant ringing in one ear. Also experiencing
a lot of workplace stress so this may be impeding
weightless and improved well being?
Any thoughts?
