I just bought manuka honey last week as a matter of fact.   I attended a local workshop a few weeks ago on the traditional medicinal uses of honey.

I guess I had assumed that honey was bad due to the fructose, but it in fact has a lot of healing properties.   It's antibacterial, has a lot of friendly bacteria and beneficial enzymes, helps with blood sugar control, has antioxidants, helps with respiratory health, reduces white blood cell count with high fevers, and it a rich source of silica .

You'd have to get raw honey if at all possible.   The honey found in the bears in the store is apparently part honey and the rest is high fructose corn syrup.  So you really have to source it.

The person giving the workshop was saying that one should take Manuka honey on hiking trips as part of their first aid supplies.  Apparently there have been numerous people that had terrible injuries on hikes, where they could not get help for a long time.  They however ingested manuka, as well as put it on their wounds and it saved their lives.   It fights staph-  the doctors don't have to give antibiotics if the wound has been treated with honey.  Manuka honey is very powerful on healing burns as well.

Starting a new thread, because someone had mentioned supplementing with turmeric but I couldn't find the post and wanted to make a comment about it.

I recently read about the health benefits of various spices, and apparently turmeric is one of the best that you can use. It has amazing anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant benefits. For the past couple weeks I've been sprinkling it on my eggs.

And that got me thinking about Soylent. For those of you who are unfamiliar, I'm not talking about Soylent Green, but a food replacement product. I live up here in Silicon Valley, and there are a bunch of programmers (not chefs or nutritionists) who are trying to create a meal replacement so they can spend more time programming. Seriously. One of the key things they don't get is that real food provides a whole lot of nutrients, especially micronutrients, that you simply can't produce in a processed food-like substance.

Everyone always thinks they can out-think Mother Nature. Did we not learn anything from the tragedy on Isla Nublar documented in "Jurassic Park"?

Turmeric is not only anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant but also it has many other health benefits. Such as it helps for Bowel Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Cancer prevention and reduces the risk of Childhood Leukemia and so on. Thus turmeric has lots of health benefits.
